Hello! Welcome to this maiden web page of the Directorate of Human Resources. Cognizant of our central role in managing Kyambogo University’s most valued resources, the employees, we seek to share with our stakeholders our mandate, functions, services and outputs in the realization of the corporate vision, mission, strategies and goals of the University.
In doing the above, we will provide you with a glimpse into the process of our creation which was a reaction to address the challenges of the merger of the three institutions, ITEK, UPK and UNISE into Kyambogo University in 2001-2003.
Mandate
To guide and manage the attraction, utilization, retention, and development of quality human resources that is critical to achieving excellence in Kyambogo University
a) To guide and manage the attraction, utilization, retention, and development of quality human resources that are critical to achieving excellence in Kyambogo University.
b) The Directorate’s key functions include;
i) To develop human resources strategies, policies, procedures, standards and practices;

About Us
At its inception in 2003, Kyambogo University (formed through a merger of three institutions, namely, ITEK, UPK and UNISE) did not have a Human Resource Management Unit (Report of the Restructuring, 2004).
Consequently, in response to the unrest and strikes resulting from the implementation of the imperfect structure and resultant problems of integration of merged staff the establishment of Human Resource Unit was recommended (Adhoc Committee, 2006: ii).

Historical Perspective
At its inception in 2003, Kyambogo University (formed through a merger of three institutions, namely, ITEK, UPK and UNISE) did not have a Human Resource Management Unit (Report of the Restructuring, 2004). The restructuring report recommended the Human Resource Development Unit to handle staff Training and Development.
Mission
To contribute to the advancement and promotion of knowledge and development of skills in science, technology and education through the attraction and retention of well-qualified and motivated Human Resources.
Vision
To be a Centre of Human Resources excellence in transforming Kyambogo University into a world-class university.
The Directorate offers a number of services including;
- Provision of strategic and practical solutions to management as HR business partners
- Guidance and Counseling especially in career and work-related matters
- Interpretation of Human Resource related laws and regulations regarding terms and conditions of service
- Performance consultancy to managers
- Serves as internal employee relations consultants
- Facilitating conflict resolution among staff between staff and supervisors.
- Advising and guiding managers and staff on HR related matters.
- Coaching and Mentoring on HR issues.
